WooHoo...sold my first piece on FOLKSY

Compassion
Angel.
Acrylic and graphite
overpainted on an old printed canvas.
I let the sunset from the
original picture show
through for her aura.
I think she is beautiful
the cost of compassion
symbolised by graphite
marking over her skin.
It's a strange feeling,
having a piece of my soul
out there...
but cool to that someone else will enjoy her too...

Fairy Prim came flying through the post to me from fabulous Flossie Limejuice and has found a sunny spot on my studio windowsill...

Compassion Angel fairly flew from my paintbrush onto the canvas this week and

Yes I do... she is so inspirational and unpretentious..Im making little pillows and gonna sew them all together....she has sparked my imagination and I have loads of ideas I want to try out, especially putting my own paintings onto fabric.

Unfortunately my printer is constipated itself and died and no funds to buy a new one..so they will have to wait.

In the mean time Im taking Lucy's advice and getting colourful !

I just love rusty stuff ...! I took this photo down by the sea..cos I found rusty stuff with green.. delish...(am I wierd ?).

Major decorating of new flat is nearly finished and Ive put the stepladder and paint away as Ive started a new job and Im wondering just when I will have the time and energy for art again....

Well it's been a long year much Upheaval and many changes.

I'm now living in a kinda grey place but thats ok because I have all the sunshine and sea breezes inside me.

I can still draw on all my seasidey experiences for inspiration. After all its not so far away...I still have my discount card for the train and a little bag by the door with my bucket and spade.....

well I have been busy, alas not so much in the creativity department but coping with the upheaval of new central heating and kitchen being installed....and then of course I had to decorate the flat ....and isnt that a good time to have a good sort out?

glutton for punishment ...?

well its almost all done ,except of course, I changed colours in my bedroom and now I have to buy new stuff! ...oooh ouch...no money to spend on supplies...

I did take time out to make this attic doll tho and all that sorting out has meant I' ve found several unfinished projects to keep me busy.

Lucy's angel... a folk art angel on canvas. I did change her mouth after this pic was taken ...Ben pointed out that she looked a little sad so just a little red paint and now she is happy.....why isnt life always that simple?
well...maybe it is.....that simple sometimes..happiness is often found in the smallest and simplest of things.

Ive only done this kind of painting on wood before and it worked better than I had anticipated.I was quite nervous as it is quite a large canvas, I was going to do a flat acrylic painting for my mate Jane but I got sidetracked and started off transferring a pencil drawing onto the canvas with a fabric gel. I didnt know about transfers at all...and discovered hat it wasnt the best medium to use...after the fact of course! ...this took haphazardly and left raised gel areas all over the canvas ...so not one to waste anything I decided to have a go at a mixed media version so as not to waste the canvas and here is the result.

Here she is before her new life in Alton, not Alton-by-the-sea but she has a good home wafting about in a different kind of deep water.....the kind that therapists swim in !

She has a mixed media background on canvas which worked out better than I had anticipated and which was great fun to do ,which only goes to remind me that curiosity is one of the reasons I love to be an artist.......I never know just how it's going to turn out.

'Salome'......... mixed media painting on wood. I like her shabbiness, she is quite textured and glittery which doesnt show up in the photo, anyway she is a first attempt ..so quite pleased with her really.

A Sigh and a Feather

A long time ago in a faraway place....

an angel fell to earth

and as she fell

she learned that

there is only Silence

when angels Fall

from the skies blue Grace

there is no sound

no Explosion of Anger

no shout of Explanation

only falling

and silence.

She learned that Disapointment

can be a cruelly Mute

Thing

that Stillness sometimes

carries disapproval

in it's Terrible Hush.

All she had

was the soft Rush of the wind

that she took for a Sigh

and one single

Sorry Feather

floating to her feet.

Ive been busy

Here is Violet. She is a mixed media girl on wood, the kind of girl who's been spending time in the attic, forgotten, waiting...

She is my first girl made in an online class by Suzi Blu. Ive learned cool techniques but need more practise. I got right to the end of this project and covered the face in beeswax and it all went wrong..well her face came out in the pox! purple lumps under her perfect complexion.

All that work ..ho hum. well I rescued her face with some paint but back to the drawing board...literally!

Having fun tho with all things arty !

I am reading and following the Artists Way by Julia Cameron together with 136 women !
Wow isnt technology great!
Im part of an online group on Suzi Blu's Ning. As part of the process I have to take my artist self out on a date every week. This week I took myself down to the beach in the warm spring sunshine and played with stones and watercolours, it was great but the best bit was walking home. I 'abandoned' the stones in unexpected places, hoping that another child, of whatever age, find them and enjoy them. They are painted with watercolour so i feel that Im not damaging the enviroment too much.
Noseless Norm..in profile ..see above photo, has a permenant place on my shelf and Is my new muse. and keeps me company while I paint. He is the stong silent type (being a rock and all) and doesnt comment much on the work but maybe thats because he knows it's the doing of art that is the important thing!
I've also been busy this week making a couple of gifts for Suzanne and Wayne's wedding but they remain wrapped up until saturday so I can't show you those yet.
